Trainee Marketing & Communications Assistant

Leeds Playhouse has a mission to create world class, relevant and compelling theatre and to transform people’s lives by the power and vitality of their work. They are embarking on an exciting new chapter in their illustrious history, with a transformative Capital Redevelopment project due to complete in Autumn 2019.

As they conclude their redevelopment year and work towards moving back into the new Leeds Playhouse, they are looking for a Trainee Marketing and Communications Assistant who will play a key role in supporting the team to create a dynamic approach to all their campaigns.

The role involves working with a busy Communications Team across a wide range of projects, so an organised approach with the ability to manage a busy workload and conflicting demands will be key. This is an excellent opportunity to join Leeds Playhouse, as they prepare to re-open their main building and new Bramall Rock Void Studio and this role will be at the forefront of communicating these changes to their audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write and proof marketing copy for the Playhouse
  • Support the team across marketing and communications campaigns
  • Support on planning across the season with scheduling activity across campaigns
  • Attend and support team at press nights when required
  • Co-ordinate the print distribution through appropriate channels
  • Management of print and distribution
  • Ensure FOH displays, poster sites, leaflet racks and display screens are always up to date and tidy, liaising with box office to manage this process
  • Lead on co-ordinating digital output of the department (i.e. web uploads, scheduling social media activity, uploading videos to their YouTube Channel)
  • Manage and update administrate listings across external websites
  • Evaluate relevant coverage using a digital press cuttings service
  • Support on internal communication, collating and sharing information for regular company meetings and media updates
  • Assist with a range of activities which may include out of hours work for example press nights

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • An interest in theatre or live performance of any kind
  • Experience using social media, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • A methodical and organised approach to work
  • An ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • A creative approach to problem solving
  • Able to deal with individuals at all levels
  • Team player who is trustworthy and reliable
  • An ability to make independent decisions
  • An ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time
  • Excellent IT skills and familiarity with most office software packages e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Evidence of a desire to learn and develop at the Playhouse
  • A good time-keeper with a flexible approach to working hours

Desirable

  • Experience of working with websites, Adobe software packages and content management systems
  • Experience of web content management systems
  • A recognised qualification in Marketing (CIM or degree)
  • Experience of working in the Arts or not-for-profit sector
