Bare Lit Festival is an annual, London-based literature festival celebrating the work of writers of colour. The festival brings together poets, journalists, playwrights and novelists with readings and discussions, performances and debates, networking opportunities and workshops.

Bare Lit Festival are looking for an experienced press officer on a fixed term contract for a period of around 4 months. You will be working as part of a small team to deliver press communications for the festival taking place in May 2020.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write press releases, comment pieces, quotes and other copy as required to a high standard
  • Maintain and grow list of press contacts
  • Find opportunities for festival team and artists to appear in press (radio, interviews, TV)
  • Deliver a broad range of high quality and targeted media coverage in a range of different media including online, print and broadcast with an eye to making new relationships and targeting non-traditional outlets
  • Respond to press enquiries and build and maintain relationships with journalists
  • Monitor and evaluate press coverage – including producing round-ups and reports to share progress and success internally
  • Be prepared to work flexibly

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

  • At least three years experience working in an arts press office or agency and responding to media requests
  • Can demonstrate innovative and creative publicity ideas that have achieved high-quality coverage
  • Ability to turn the festival’s development and programme into news stories in a simple and engaging way
  • Confident writing skills for different types of media, audiences, and communications channels
  • Able to prioritise competing priorities, work to tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure
  • Experience of working on cross-channel communications campaigns, with the knowledge of how to link media with social, digital, supporter, and other communications to amplify impact
  • Fluent with the use of Google docs
  • Interest in the aims of the festival
