International Sales Assistant

Bloomsbury is a leading international publisher with strengths in trade, children’s, professional and academic publishing, both digitally and in print.

They are looking for a temporary Sales Assistant to provide support and administrative assistance to the Academic Sales team for the UK and Export market for a period of 12 months. The ideal candidate will be able to liaise with multiple stakeholders, including authors, agents as well as the internal sales team and have excellent customer service skills across the board.   • Assisting and supporting the Academic Sales team in their work of selling Bloomsbury Academic titles and publishing lists around the world
  • Working directly with customers and with the Sales Managers to grow sales and achieve targets
  • Generating monthly bestseller lists and newsletters and creating order forms for lead titles, creating seasonal e-kits for academic, running a monthly production schedule and generating annual subject stocklists
  • Ensuring customers have all the information to meet their sales goals
  • Preparing presentations and sales reports for meetings and business trips the Sales Managers are attending
  • Working directly with Bloomsbury authors to process international orders at the contracted discount and monitoring international queries that are sent through the company website
  • Running all book fair sales reports for the Sales Managers and ensuring all marketing materials are up to date for these key meetings
  • Generating monthly sales reports for the team and international agents, running ad hoc sales reports and generating quarterly information packs for the sales teams
  • Managing and growing sales of relevant product to non-traditional specialist retail e.g. Museums, galleries etc
  • Setting up special/net prices for certain customers at manager’s request
  • Mailing of catalogues and proofs to reps and customers
  • Dealing with queries from customers and working closely with the distribution and customer service centre
  • Maintaining and consistently improving product knowledge


  • Able to act proactively and with limited direct supervision, while at the same time recognising when matters need to be referred to manager
  • The interpersonal skills necessary to develop and sustain effective relationships internally, and on behalf of the Company with external bodies and with its customers
  • Able to work accurately with detailed information
  • Ability to grasp new systems
  • Able to identify and highlight potential obstacles in achieving objectives and propose solutions where appropriate
  • Possesses a high level of resilience and drive, able to be flexible and change direction as required
  • A high level of organisational skills
