Enrichment Assistant Director

Formed in 2000, Punchdrunk has pioneered a game-changing form of immersive theatre in which roaming audiences experience epic and emotional storytelling inside sensory theatrical worlds. Their award-winning productions invite audiences to rediscover the childlike excitement and anticipation of exploring the unknown and experience a real sense of adventure. Since 2008, Punchdrunk has taken the company’s practice into communities, creating high quality, ambitious projects and productions for children, participants and the wider community. This includes public productions, research & development and Enrichment work with teachers and schools.

The successful candidate will support the day to day artistic running of Punchdrunk’s primary school programme, primarily in London. The role spans creative maintenance and development of existing works, workshop facilitation, talent development and delivering Punchdrunk’s CPD programme. The ideal candidate will be an excellent facilitator and sensitive director, who is a collaborative team worker and passionate about theatre for young audiences and teachers.


  • Leading creative delivery of primary school projects including The Lost Lending Library, A Small Tale and A Curious Quest
  • Overseeing the creative maintenance and improvement of relevant projects, including briefing and feeding back to design teams with the Enrichment Projects Manager
  • Auditioning, rehearsing and inducting performers
  • Supporting performers to ensure that the projects are accessible to young people of all needs and abilities
  • Maintaining written materials for relevant projects, including scripts, workshop plans, briefs and materials for teachers
  • Taking on the development and delivery of small-scale projects as appropriate and as identified with the team
  • Supporting the Producing team with the programming of project work and setting targets for the delivery of relevant projects
  • Supporting the Enrichment Projects Manager or Producer to ensure budgets reflect the creative ambition for the projects
  • Creating, leading and facilitating workshops on company practice for participants including young people, teachers, artists and other stakeholders
  • Training freelance facilitators and performers to deliver workshops as required


  • Minimum 3 years experience directing or creating theatre for young audiences
  • Experienced in devising workshops for different audiences/stakeholders
  • Experienced in directing rehearsals and noting performances
  • An interest in set design, lighting design and sound design
  • Experience of managing a creative team and creative process
  • Experience of working in an educational context and/or with primary schools and teachers
  • Experience of working on community outreach projects, young audiences or immersive/interactive theatre
  • A love of stories and storytelling
