From practical health, psychology and advice to books that provide inspiration or nurture creativity, all with a dash of humour and flair, Souvenir is developing into a dynamic and open-minded lifestyle list. Profile Books is an established list of stimulating non-fiction. They publish voices with purpose, from Mary Beard and Oliver Bullough to Atul Gawande and Shoshana Zuboff, across disciplines including history, business, economics, science and biography, with a sprinkling of humour.

This award-winning independent publisher in search of an Editorial Assistant to work across their lists. Reporting to the Publisher of Souvenir Press, you’ll be involved with Profile non-fiction too, so you’ll be working with authors ranging from Lucy Mangan and Ruby Tandoh to Adam Kucharski, Annie Gray and Hashi Mohamed, books like The Artist’s Way and Diary of a Bookseller, and on subjects from the seaside or fabric to anxiety or scientific parenting. They are looking for someone who is smart and can get a lot done so if this sounds like you, they would love to hear from you.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Make sure everyone has what they need to publish their books brilliantly, that authors are looked after and admin taken care of
  • Managing diaries and sharing information
  • Reading submissions
  • Writing copy and briefing covers
  • You’ll learn what makes a book great and what makes a publication great too
  • Learn how to edit text, what to think about when acquiring a book and how publishing works
  • You’ll learn how the teams work together in house and how they work with agents and authors

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

  • You will need to be a fluent writer
  • Have a creative mind
  • Be interested in the business of books as well as being a voracious reader
  • Reliable
  • Good at taking the initiative
  • Able to keep a clear head when things get busy
