Content Manager – Podcast and Digital Audio

BFBS is a military charity and media organisation with a mission to inform, entertain, connect and champion the UK serving military, their families and veterans. They have been keeping the serving military connected and in touch for over 75 years, building morale and offering those serving overseas a valuable connection to life back home. They help them feel happier, know what’s going on around the world, share experiences and build communities. Today, their TV, radio and digital platforms offer entertainment, news, sport and information services to the Armed Forces, their families, veterans and anyone interested in the military.

The Forces Network are looking for an experienced, on-demand audio expert, to deliver their strategy to innovate, in audience-led podcast and web content strands for BFBS Radio. In this dual role, the successful candidate will also pitch and make content for commercial clients, as part of the BFBS Creative agency team.


  • Manage BFBS Radio speech and Podcast content across linear and digital platforms
  • Own the strategy for BFBS worldwide speech and podcast approaches
  • Be a subject matter expert for audio speech/podcast content, platforms and compliance matters
  • Lead on the editorial decisions around speech quality, commissioning, scheduling, listen live, listen again, on demand and podcast material
  • Translate all knowledge and experience into managing, creating and producing audio and podcast content for external clients
  • Provide SME training (internal and external) on podcasting and other audio opportunities
  • Oversee platform uploads and digital assets to support podcast activity
  • Report necessary PRS and other data and ensure compliance including with Ofcom Code
  • Lead on creative speech audio content projects and related multiplatform material
  • Lead on platform, publishing & SEO strategies and manage relationships with related third-party contractors (e.g. SimpleStream)
  • Develop active relationship with BBC Sounds and other platform owners
  • Advise on legal and licencing as applicable to podcast landscape
  • Ensure audience insight is translated into appropriate content approaches
  • Innovate in content creation methods to find new audiences
  • Help colleagues understand what ‘good’ looks like
  • Team building, focusing on achieving common goals and objectives
  • Budget management where required
  • Stakeholder relationship management (other SSVC departments, clients, military and/or industry)
  • Work with the commercial team to build BFBS’ podcast and audio offering to clients via the BFBS Creative agency



  • Inspirational leadership
  • Experience in delivering on demand (including podcast) audio content strategies
  • Experience of training others in producing excellence in speech content
  • Impeccable verbal and written communications skills
  • Highly skilled audio production and edit experience, including features, packages, documentaries, podcasts, series, two-ways, OBs
  • Experience and confidence in making editorial decisions
  • Understanding of Ofcom Code and digital rights compliance
  • Ability to use audience insight to develop content approaches
  • Professional use of digital and social media
  • Interviewing for content (senior level)
  • Stakeholder liaison at a senior level
  • Experience working with clients (internal or external)
