Catering Duty Manager

The award-winning Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre is a London landmark – a firm fixture of summer in the city, providing a cultural hub in the beautiful surroundings of a Royal Park. The theatre is celebrated for its bold and dynamic productions (The Turn of the Screw, Little Shop of Horrors, The Seagull, Porgy and Bess, The Crucible, Henry V), with audiences of over 140,000 each year during its 18-week season.

Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre are looking for two Catering Duty Managers. Successful candidates will support the Head of Catering and the Head Chef to deliver the effective management of catering operations and provide food and drink at the theatre. As front line managers, they will represent the company, ensuring the highest levels of customer service and presentation whilst maximising sales. They will have a hands-on role throughout the busy summer season.


  • Be highly visible and accessible management presence
  • Assist in the smooth delivery of the catering operation
  • Take a proactive role in developing income streams from all catering areas
  • Train, develop and work closely with the Catering team to deliver the highest levels of customer service and meet health and safety requirements
  • Create rotas for the Catering Assistants
  • Ensure that an excellent standard of service is offered to all customers, offering a positive and warm welcome
  • Conduct accurate accounting, cashing up, cash-handling and banking practices
  • Ensure all catering areas are fully prepared and adequately staffed and stocked
  • Ensure all pre-booked catering is ready for each show
  • Deal with all customer problems, comments and complaints
  • Support the Visitor Services Team
  • Liaise with the Partnerships Team regarding the details of events
  • Manage disposables and stock items, ensuring that replacements are ordered
  • Supervising the Catering Assistants, maintain a safe and secure working environment at all times
  • Monitor all health and safety, food safety and temperature records, making recommendations and reporting any areas of concern



  • Previous management experience in this department
  • Excellent attention to detail with the highest standards of presentation
  • Excellent written and spoken English with proven interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people at all levels in a confident and friendly manner
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm, understanding and experience of customer service and sales techniques
  • Experience of cash-handling and reconciliation
  • Good computer literacy including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrable experience and proven track record of successful training
  • Proven ability to work well both independently and within a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, independently problem‐solving, quickly and efficiently


  • Previous experience of working in a theatre
  • First Aid qualification
  • SIA Licence holder
  • Basic Food Safety certificate
