Books Coordinator

Do you have boundless enthusiasm for books and reading? Then check out this role from UK publishing’s leading trade publication…

The Bookseller is the leading trade magazine for the publishing industry in the UK. Founded in 1858, they are fiercely independent. As well as the weekly print magazine, The Bookseller is available online via subscription, and runs The British Book Awards, The YA Book Prize, the Marketing & Publicity, Children’s and Futurebook conferences, Books in The Media, Book Gig and The Bookseller Podcast.

The Bookseller is looking for a Books Coordinator to join their team. Reporting to the Books Editor and working closely with the web and social manager, the Books Coordinator brings together all the elements of The Bookseller’s print and online books coverage. This newly structured role is pivotal to ensuring that their customers (subscribers) receive the best books offering that The Bookseller can provide. The chosen candidate will often be the first contact for publishers’ publicity teams, festival organisers and bookshops and so your excitement about books needs to match theirs.

  • Administration of Books in the Media and adding reviews from mid-week publications to supplement work of weekend data contributors
  • Ensuring up-to-date and accurate input of rights into new rights database (Autumn 2019) and supporting the news team to record rights deals, and to use rights data effectively
  • Distributing books, where needed, to book previewers and category preview experts
  • Supporting Books Editor with organising publisher presentations and ensuring The Bookseller is on relevant publicity lists for new book announcements
  • Working with The Bookseller Podcast’s host and production studio to turn audio content into usable online book content e.g. the recommendations of indie bookshops
  • Working with web and social manager to ensure books content is surfaced on thebookseller.com

  • Proficient in all standard MS Office software (Word, Excel etc)
  • An exceptional eye for detail
  • Comfortable with working on a variety of content management systems (CMS)
  • Boundless enthusiasm for books and reading and for getting The Bookseller’s content into the hands of trade and consumer readers
