Assistant Director

The Children’s Theatre Partnership (CTP) produces large-scale, bold, ambitious, high quality and imaginative theatre for young people, families and schools on tour throughout the UK.

They are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Director to rehearse and tour with their 2020 production of HOLES by Louis Sachar, directed by Adam Penford. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience of touring and  a flexible and practical approach to work. So, if this sounds like you then they would love to hear from you.

The Show

  • The show will:
    • Rehearse in Nottingham
    • Open at Royal & Derngate Northampton
    • Tour for approx. 14 weeks throughout the UK

Dates

  • Rehearsals Commence: 30 December 2019
  • First Preview: 24 January 2020 in Northampton
  • Northampton run ends: 08 February 2020
  • Tour commences: 10 February 2020 and ends: 30 May 2020
  • Tour schedule is subject to final confirmation and includes Northampton Royal & Derngate, Nottingham Playhouse, Coventry Belgrade, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Plymouth Theatre Royal, Liverpool Playhouse, Leeds Playhouse, Norwich Theatre Royal, Blackpool Grand, Wolverhampton Grand

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attendance at all rehearsals
  • Leading some rehearsals subject to the availability of the director
  • Attending tech and previews and the opening performance in Northampton
  • Rehearsing understudies
  • Seeing the show into each tour venue
  • Show watches and notes sessions at each venue
  • Leading education workshops and other participatory activities

Salary – £600 per week plus associated travel and accommodation expenses

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

  • Some knowledge/experience of touring
  • Some experience of running educational activities
  • Ability to lead a team when required
  • Strong communication skills
  • A flexible and practical approach to work and ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong organisational skills
  • A passion for encouraging a new generation of arts lovers, theatre makers and theatre goers from the widest possible audience
