Do you have excellent leadership skills and strong judgement? Apply now to join an innovative charity and their Board of Trustees…

The Sixteen ranks amongst the world’s greatest ensembles comprising both choir and period-instrument orchestra. Founded by Harry Christophers in 1979, it has a distinctive clarity of sound and a reputation for bringing lesser-known works and under-represented composers to the public. It performs a wide range of choral-based music but it has a particular reputation for sacred works of the 16th to 18th centuries and the 20th century to today.

The Sixteen is recruiting for three new trustees to join their organisation. The Sixteen’s current Board of Trustees, nine strong, has a wide range of skills and experience. The role will involve a variety of responsibilities, including serving on the Board of the Charity, acting as an ambassador and contributing to the charity’s strategic direction. The successful candidates will have an understanding of charity governance as well as an enthusiasm to contribute.

  • Serve on the Board of the Charity, taking responsibility for directing its affairs, ensuring that it is solvent, well-run and delivering the charitable outcomes for which it has been set up
  • Help shape development, enabling it to reach sound decisions
  • Act as an ambassador, safeguarding reputation and values
  • Use networks to promote work and increase income
  • Contribute to charity’s strategic direction, setting overall policies, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating progress
  • Scrutinise Board and other relevant papers and contribute positively to all discussions
  • Provide guidance where appropriate on new initiatives
  • Work in partnership with other trustees to oversee and monitor the management and administration of the Charity

Experience of one of the following

  • Making connections and introductions to corporates and/or high net-worth individuals, with a commitment to support and help lead the Charity’s efforts in sourcing and maintaining high-value individual and corporate donations
  • PR/Media/Digital work, with experience, ideas and/or connections to help steer The Sixteen to a wider reach beyond the niche classical sector
  • Outreach and audience development work in a larger arts organisation to be able to help guide The Sixteen as it further develops this critical area of activity

Essential Attributes

  • Commitment to the Charity, its vision and values
  • Understanding of charity governance and business practices
  • Integrity, strategic vision, good independent judgement and a willingness to contribute

This opportunity is open to all candidates
