Course Leader (CertHE in Musical Theatre & BA Top Up)

Italia Conti aims to provide education and training opportunities, both academic and vocational level, to a diverse student population, interested in performing careers. Italia Conti is the leading Performing Arts institution in the country; built up over the 109 years since it was founded. The Academy has an outstanding international reputation for providing Performing Arts training for a wide variety of disciplines, enabling our students to become versatile and valuable members of the theatrical profession. 

Italia Conti are in need of a dynamic Course Leader to take responsibility for the development and management of two new exciting programmes; in September 2021, Italia Conti is launching a brand new CertHE in Musical Theatre and a BA Top Up. Both courses will be delivered face-to-face, but with an online/remote option for the BA Top Up. 


  • Leading and managing the facilitation, delivery, resources and team for the CertHE MT and BA Top Up courses
  • Working as a member of the senior management team to recruit and induct students
  • Ensuring all the entire vocational and academic curriculum is delivered to a high standard
  • Working to develop high-quality and flexible online learning schemes for those on the BA (Hons) Top Up remote programme
  • Overseeing quality teaching and learning strategies within the department, including observations, assessment, and feedback to the faculty
  • Establishing production teams (Directors, Choreographers etc.) for individual productions
  • Delegating administrative tasks/module leadership where appropriate
  • Ensuring oversight of the monitoring and reporting process on student progress
  • Writing, maintaining and amending module specifications with external examiners and link tutor in liaison with the Quality Assurance team
  • Working as a team on the future planning, course design/development and holistic setting of the courses
  • Contributing resources and executing activities to meet the requirements of Italia Conti’s Outreach and Access & Participation Plan
  • Assisting with the recruitment, induction and development of staffing

Knowledge, skills, experience

  • A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of Musical Theatre and of the contemporary performing arts landscape
  • Significant demonstrable experience of course leadership
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, particularly in relation to online delivery
  • Demonstratable connections with the industry
  • Commitment to scholarship, research, and innovation
  • Excellent influencing and communication skills, and an open and collaborative style
  • Knowledge and understanding of effective Quality Assurance policies and practices, including higher education quality frameworks
  • Significant demonstrable experience of developing online provision and providing an exemplary online learning experience for students
  • Experience of an administrative or managerial role within a HE or FE context
  • Experience of delivering widening participation activities and outreach events
  • Experience of line managing an academic team
  • Professional experience of directing/choreographing productions within the performing arts industry
