Digital Programme Producer (Maternity Cover)

Photoworks champions photography for everyone. They are an international platform, global in reach, and have provided opportunities for artists and audiences since 1995. They do not have a physical venue, but their online channels are always open. Their programme brings new experiences to audiences and opens up new ways to encounter photography. 

Photoworks are looking for a Digital Programme Producer to join their team. This post is an exciting opportunity to work with the Audience Development & Communications Manager to deliver Photoworks’s digital programme and digital communications strategy. By producing high-quality, engaging and accessible content tailored to each platform, the Digital Programme Producer (Maternity Cover) will support Photoworks’s digital audience development and audience engagement. The successful candidaet will be a highly organised, dynamic individual with a passion for digital. They will have a strong interest in digital trends and good understanding of digital audiences. They might not be from an arts background - but they will have a passion for visual art/photography and culture. 


Digital programme and content

  • Deliver the digital programme including online events, artists films, podcasts, Photography+, Instagram takeovers
  • Photo editing and picture research for  Photography+, Photoworks’s digital magazine
  • Project manage the production of new video content
  • Work closely with the Audience Development & Communications Manager, manage and implement the digital strand of the organisation-wide communications strategy
  • With the Audience Development & Communications Manager, produce and oversee live social media content including live tweeting, Facebook Live, Insta Stories and Insta TV
  • Lead on the day to day running of content planning tools
  • Lay out digital marketing materials (including Mailchimp)
  • Understand the needs of Photoworks’s digital audiences and ensure that digital content creation is informed by evaluation and general web statistics and trends
  • Produce basic design both for online and print use (e.g. image layouts, marketing design, video idents), adhering to brand guidelines
  • Manage and upload all digital content to the Photoworks website (WordPress)
  • Ensure that all digital content meets guidelines for web content production, including Photoworks’s style and brand guidelines, SEO best practice and World Wide Web Consortium Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Gather relevant digital data including web analytics and social media engagement analysis and share with colleagues for strategic purposes
  • Monitor online security and flag any concerns to senior staff
  • Liaise and manage the relationship with with external web developer


  • Act in accordance with Photoworks policies including diversity, equal opportunities, safeguarding and H&S
  • All Photoworks employees are required to support the organisation’s fundraising aims - by acting as ambassador for the organisation, supporting relationships with existing and prospective funders, and identifying opportunities
  • As a member of the Photoworks team you will be an advocate for the organisation and will be asked to attend key events and exhibitions in their programme, both in Brighton and elsewhere



  • Experience of working in a similar role (this does not have to be in the arts/charity sector)
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms and experience of growing social media channels, both in terms of headline metrics and engagement
  • Experience of producing live social media content
  • Good working knowledge of SEO and web accessibility standards
  • Good working knowledge of content management systems (WordPress or similar)
  • Experience of analysis and reporting, using web analytics and other tools
  • A good understanding of current digital trends
  • Understanding of cyber security
  • Knowledge of user experience (UX)
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to plan and deliver multiple projects simultaneously to time, to budget and to a high standard
  • The ability to stay calm under pressure and prioritise workload for urgent tasks
  • High degree of IT literacy, including proficiency in using all Microsoft Office applications and image software skills including InDesign, Photoshop
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to build effective working relationships with a range of colleagues and stakeholders, and a positive manner
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to produce clear, engaging and accessible copy tailored to different social media platforms
  • A commitment to, and understanding of, the principles of diversity and representation combined with how to apply them to everything you do at work

  • Knowledge of contemporary photography, or experience of working in the arts (including voluntary/freelance roles)
  • Video and audio editing skills, After Effects
  • Graphic design skills
  • Web development skills (html, css, javascript)
