Taylor & Francis Group is currently recruiting a Publishing Process Apprentice to join their Operational Excellence Team. This 18-month programme will equip you with the basics of the Lean Six Sigma and Agile methodologies and give you skills, knowledge, and experience to support you in your career.

You will work towards:

  • Gaining Level 3 Apprenticeship as an Improvement Technician (Standard)
  • Utilising online learning modules to understand and revise course materials, supported by a dedicated Lean Six Sigma coach and business mentor
  • Completing a business improvement project to demonstrate your understanding of the topics and gain practical experience
  • Presenting evidence as part of an End Point Assessment to successfully pass your apprenticeship

You will learn and demonstrate the ability to:

  • Support the Journal’s Editorial teams in delivering a high-quality service for our customers (Journal Editors and Academic Societies)
  • Utilise a wide range of process improvement tools and project management methods, including a Kanban system to manage day-to-day work
  • Working independently and effectively from home, showing the ability to motivate yourself and deliver a high standard
  • Manage multiple tasks alongside learning modules, prioritising workload and managing time effectively
  • Communicating well in both written and verbal formats, including training on presentation skills and other key business competencies
  • Understand process data, including basic statistical methods and performance measures, in order to identify and address problems
  • Work with the team to generate ideas to improve systems and processes, focusing on removing waste and inefficiencies
  • Successfully liaise and communicate with colleagues within and across departments to gather feedback and implement solutions which benefit colleagues and customers

Knowledge, skills, experience: 

  • As a minimum requirement, you will need to have achieved or be expecting to achieve 5 GCSE passes at Grade C/4 or above including in English and Maths or equivalent qualifications
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
  • A basic understanding of the purpose and principles of process improvement (e.g. Lean Six Sigma)
  • A strong interest in continuously improving processes and innovating new solutions
  • Enthusiasm and motivation, the drive to achieve excellence
  • An openness for learning, able to ask for help when required
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders
  • A self-starter, able to use own initiative, able to self-organise
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • A team player, building good working relationships and retaining a positive attitude towards your work, colleagues and fellow stakeholders
