Trainee Sports Reporter & Trainee Sports Production Journalist (x2)

Sky Sports are looking for two enthusiastic individuals to join their diverse and dynamic team for 12 months. You will experience 2 x 6 months placements: first as a Trainee Sports Reporter, and then as a Trainee Sports Production Journalist. This is a unique opportunity to develop great contacts and learn how a story starts and progresses. Based at their award-winning Osterley campus you will be supported by passionate colleagues along the way and have access to a range of exclusive learning tools from workshops to digital courses.

What you will learn

Trainee Reporter

  • Shadow some of the best reporters and camera crews in the country
  • Eventually find, research and make your own content for Sky Sports News platforms, drawing on your learnings with them
  • Develop great contacts and learn how a story starts and progresses
  • Research and deliver stories across many sports, especially football
  • Understand how Sky Sports gather and distribute news to all their platforms – TV, digital and social
  • You will spend time understanding the main elements of the role, covering video editing, writing skills, media law, ethics, as well as how to structure and develop a story
  • Learn how to compile news – from planning, production and editing to the finished report
  • Hit the road with the talented camera crews and be invited to help be a force for good through sports journalism

Trainee Production Journalist

  • You will spend time understanding how stories are published and get to air, covering video editing, writing skills, media law, ethics, as well as how to structure and develop a story
  • Learn how to compile news – from planning, production and editing to the finished report
  • Hit the road with the talented camera crews and be invited to help be a force for good through original and ground-breaking sports journalism

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • An original thinker with a passion for journalism
  • A graduate in any degree discipline or soon will be
  • A quick learner and a team player
  • Have a passion for media content
