Cheek by Jowl is a leading international theatre company; a charity and one of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations. The company is an Artistic Associate of the Barbican in London, where its producing base is located. The company has performed in over 400 cities and 50 countries, producing strikingly modern interpretations of classic texts in multiple languages including French, Italian, Russian and English. The team at Cheek by Jowl are pleased to announce that they are hiring an intern to join them part-time, three days a week for a six-month placement, as they prepare to celebrate their 40th anniversary. The company are looking for someone who is organised, with excellent writing skills and a passion for theatre. The successful candidate will be given a hands-on experience of how an international touring theatre company is run. 

What you will learn

  • The day-to-day responsibilities of working for an international theatre company, providing general administrative support across all departments
  • Archive management and development of Cheek by Jowl’s online and physical archives; creating, compiling and uploading new material and making changes to existing content
  • The process for pursuing broadcast rights and permissions for Cheek by Jowl’s recorded productions
  • Arts marketing including social media best practice, campaign planning and content creation
  • Event and production administration, assisting with the company’s 40th-anniversary activities and events

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Very organised with good attention to detail
  • Reliable and professional
  • A fast learner with the ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • Initiative and self-motivation; can work well both independently and as part of a small team
  • A proven interest in the theatre and/or the Arts and an interest in learning about the inner workings of a theatre company
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with a basic knowledge of Excel
  • Knowledge of and experience in a range of social media and digital platforms
  • Good written English

This internship is part-funded by the Mo Siewcharran Memorial Fund, set up by John Seaton in memory of his wife, Mo, the former Marketing & Communications Director at Neilsen Books.
