Peeking into Pan Macmillan: Our 21st Birthday

We have just placed our 21st intern at our long-standing partners, Pan Macmillian! To celebrate this 21st birthday, we’d like to share what our current cohort are up to…

But first! If you don’t know who they are, here’s a little bit of background for you. Founded in 1843, Pan Macmillan are one of Britain’s oldest and largest book publishers. They pride themselves on also being the fastest-growing major publisher in the UK and were the recipients of the Bookseller’s Publisher of the Year award in both 2015 and 2017. Their bestselling authors include the likes of Adam Kay, Joe Wicks, Jeffrey Archer, CJ Sansom, Don DeLillo, Bret Easton Ellis, Jessie Burton and Ken Follett.

If that hasn’t jogged your memory yet, their imprints include Macmillan, Mantle, Pan, Picador, Kingfisher, Macmillan Children’s Books and Campbell Books. They have produced recent books such as Toni Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone as well as classics like The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson.

Courtesy of Pan Macmillian, here’s a run-down of how our current team of interns are getting on and what they’re currently reading!

Rochelle Dowden-Lord (International Sales)

“Everyone at Pan Mac is so kind and willing to give up their time to show you the ropes – the free books are also welcome! I am currently reading Where You Once Belonged by Kent Haruf, because I heard it compared to my favourite Picador author and the one true love of my literary life, Cormac McCarthy.”⠀

Asad Zulfiqar (Publishing Operations)

“I’m a big fan of the environment at Pan Macmillan. Despite being one of the biggest publishers around, there’s a very familial feel to the company. I’m currently reading One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.”⠀

Leanne Nulty (Sales and Marketing)

“Despite it only being my first week I already feel part of the Trade Marketing Team and the wider PanMac family. I’ve loved sending out proofs to amazing booksellers, making sales presentations, and helping out with author signings! My current read is Constellations by Sinéad Gleeson, a personal and powerful collection of essays about women’s bodies.”⠀

Annie Gnoan (Rights)

“My time at Macmillan has been a really enjoyable experience filled with support and encouragement, as well as being surrounded by motivational colleagues who have inspired me to get as involved in the company and the role as I can. I am really soaking up the experience and having fun in the process. The book I’m currently reading and enjoying is Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds.” ⠀

Ben Tillbrook (Production)

“Going to visit the printing presses and meeting all those who turn our orders into “real” books has got to be the highlight of Production at PanMac so far for me. I was even lucky enough to see copies of my current read, A Nearly Normal Family, rattling off the presses at nearly the same speed as I’m getting through it’s pages.”
