Creative Access have now placed 500 interns!

Creative Access is delighted to announce that we have now placed 500 interns. This achievement was celebrated at an event hosted by Google. Our first ever intern, Dominic Grant and our 500th intern, Hila Mayvand, took centre stage amongst a group of over 200 interns at the event.

Since launching in 2012, with a mission to change the face of the media, Creative Access have worked tirelessly to ensure that young BAME people are represented in the creative sector. 500 BAME interns across 13 creative sectors is a great achievement when the overall employment of BAME in the sector is 5% . We’re proud that 80% of our alumni continue to work in the creative sector at the end of their internships.

Michael Foster, Founder of Creative Access, said: “The economic rationale for Creative Access is clear: our sector needs to diversify in order to continue to grow and succeed in serving new markets and new audiences. Thanks to the support of HM Government and our industry partners, we have developed a compelling and effective model which will continue to bring under represented talent to the creative sector to help better reflect our society.”

Particular highlights for us include successfully placing over 80 interns in the book publishing industry (including literary agencies, large established publishers and small independent publishers) and placing over 200 interns with national broadcasters and independent TV production companies. We are also delighted to be working with over 15 theatres across the UK.500 cake[1]

Tony Hall, BBC Director-General said: “It has been a real pleasure to watch the BBC’s 30 Creative Access interns reach their potential and move from training into work with us or in the wider Creative Industries. Many congratulations to all at Creative Access on your 500th intern placement and we look forward to working with you in 2016 to provide more young people with their first taste of broadcasting.”

We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported Creative Access over the years –  the fantastic universities who help us reach their talented graduates, the amazing industry figures who sing our praises everywhere they go, our trustees & board members and the, over 200, media partners who have provided the internship opportunities. We couldn’t have done it without you all. Here’s to the next 500!

We have received some amazing media coverage, in Broadcast, Creative Diversity Network and Evening Standard
