Creative Access CEO discusses Sutton Trust report on unpaid internships on BBC Radio London

Yesterday the Sutton Trust published a report on unpaid internships, titled ‘Unpaid, Unadvertised and Unfair‘. In the report, Research Fellow Dr Rebecca Montacute looks at the true cost of unpaid internships in 2018; particularly highlighting that “even if transport costs are provided … the minimum cost of carrying out an internship in London unpaid is £1,019 per month”. The research suggests that 40% of young people who have carried out an internship have done so unpaid.

Creative Access will only work with organisations that offer paid internships, and this is incredibly important to us . Last night our own Josie Dobrin joined a BBC Radio London discussion on paid internships, she said ‘we feel very strongly that if you are only offering internships that are unpaid, then you are cutting out a massive proportion of people’. You can listen to Josie here from 1:33-1:39.
