Indie execs sign up as Creative Access mentors while ITV opens annual journalist scheme
Arrow Media, Electric Ray, Twofour and ITN are among those backing Creative Access’ mentoring scheme, while ITV News has launched its annual hunt for new regional broadcast talent.
Launched last month, Creative Access’ mentoring initiative matches young people from BAME communities across the UK with a pool of mentors drawn from the TV sector.
Chief executive Josie Dobrin is seeking to forge ties for some 70 youngsters, having previously helped over 800 individuals break into the industry over the past six years.
Among those signed up as mentors are Arrow’s Tom Brisley, Electric Ray’s Karl Warner, Twofour’s Edward Phillips and ITN’s Ronke Phillips.
Dobrin said she is on the lookout for more senior individuals to support Creative Access.
“We are particularly looking for more senior individuals – located anywhere in the UK – who have the time and skills to commit to working with one of our alumni to help them really build on the foundations of their career and progress through to more senior levels,” she said.
Those interested are directed to should complete a mentor registration form.
Meanwhile, ITV News and Media Trust have tied up to unearth the next generation of broadcast journalist talent.
Now in its sixth year, the ‘Breaking Into News’ initiative is spearheaded by ITV journalists Ria Chatterjee, Alex Beresford and Victoria Whittam, who will work with successful applicants over six weeks, to show them how to write and produce a local news report.
Ten individuals will be shortlisted, one for each of ITV’s regions. The journalist who produces the best report wins £400 worth of journalistic equipment and the chance to have their local news report aired on ITV.
