Candidate Stories: Jason Edwards, Quietus Management

Breaking into the media and entertainment industry is notoriously hard, but thanks to a chance tweet Jason discovered Creative Access and took control of his future…

After graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in Advertising and Brand Management, Jason went on to work in sales and recruitment. Following a redundancy, he took a short course in Music Business, which led to his discovery of Creative Access via the College’s Twitter page.

After finishing the course, he applied for two roles via Creative Access. He was appointed in November 2012 as an intern at independent music company Quietus Management, where he was given the opportunity to take a digital role and really make it his own.

“During my internship, I was given autonomy to manage my own projects. Within three months I had already worked on a digital album campaign which awarded me my first top ten album for the band Suede, very rewarding for me to achieve so early in my career.”

After Jason finished his internship, he went on to work on successful global music and television campaigns for both MTV and SYCO, and was also kept on at Quietus Management on a freelance basis, managing and mentoring the subsequent Creative Access interns (one of whom has now secured a permanent role with the company).

“I learnt my digital marketing knowledge from working directly with the managing director and gaining key skills from him. I was also given direct access to dealing with talent and writing briefs. By the time I left, I had learned how to manage campaigns independently and made a significant difference to the digital transformation of the business.”

Jason has since worked as a marketing executive at ITV, within the young and future audiences team. As well as gaining valuable on-air marketing knowledge, he is now able to assert himself as a beacon of digital knowledge thanks to his previous experience within the industry.

He is currently Director of Marketing strategy at Hypebrid, where he oversees all marketing campaigns from inception to delivery.
