Our 2019 Wrapped
Just like human noses and ears, Creative Access keeps on growing! From placing our 1000th intern in February, hosting masterclasses at Facebook and LinkedIn to a second Creative Access engagement, 2019 was jam-packed with many moments to be proud of!
Now that 2020 has finally arrived, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of our many highlights from 2019.
1000 interns! – In February we placed our 1000th intern in the creative industries! Followed by another 300 this year across TV, theatre, publishing, charities and more, we are thrilled to reach this significant milestone and look forward to placing 1000 more!
Masterclasses – Our interns were never short of inspiration as we held 15 exceptional masterclasses with a range of creative giants! From speed dating at Twitter to an exclusive, after-hours tour of the Olafur Eliasson exhibition at the TATE Modern, our interns received a wealth of wisdom on how to conquer the creative industries during and after their internships.
We also held masterclasses outside of London, including Salford, Bristol, Leicester and Manchester. This year we held events at:
- BBC Radio Theatre
- Channel 4
- The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester
- Aardman Animations – with the Publishers Association in Bristol
- The Financial Times
- TATE Modern- exclusive tour of the Olafur Eliasson exhbition
- ITV Studios
- The Publishers Association roadshow in Leicester
- Warner Music
- LinkedIn (Christmas awards and party)
We would like to say a massive thank you to all of these companies for hosting the masterclasses, as well as to the inspirational industry speakers!
Our showcase at Channel 4 – For our seventh consecutive year, we held our fabulous Creative Access Showcase in February for all those curious about kickstarting their career in the creative industries! With 200 ambitious people in attendance, we were joined by Shazia Mirza, Murad Ahmed, Stephanie Nuttu, Natalie Jerome, Tarek Iskander, Angela Jain and Nicole Logan, established creatives imparting their wisdom within journalism, radio, TV, publishing and advertising.
The Mo Siewcharran Fund – Set up in memory of former Nielsen Books Director, Mo Siewcharran, who died in June 2017, we have assisted the Fund in awarding the grant to support the training of interns placed in the Royal Society of Literature, Europa Editions, Prime Theatre in Swindon, Oneworld Publications, Orange Tree Theatre and Theatre Deli in Sheffield.
A second Creative Access wedding! – Once again, we have played Cupid! Engaged couple Yolanda and Anthony met at a Creative Access masterclass, while Yolanda was an intern at Drama Republic and Anthony interned at the Royal Shakespeare Company and Punch Records. We can’t wait to see who the lucky third couple could be!
University roadshow – Finally, we were out and about across several universities in the UK this year. Up in Glasgow we held our first ever Scottish Creative Industry Showcase at the University of Glasgow. We then attended many careers fairs and panels in the universities of Sussex, Lancaster and Coventry among others, including London universities such as SOAS, Queen Mary and Ravensbourne!
We are so grateful to everyone who has contributed to our success this year and supported us, see you next decade!
